DEATH PENALTY IN MALAWI

While the debate on whether the Malawi government should administer death penalty or not rages on. The legal parliamentary committee suggests that many Malawians are for it. The Government has not executed any for at least 15 years despite the provisions for that existing in Malawian laws. I would like to agree with the human rights activist Undule Mwakasungula that we should not kill the any Malawian.

WHY SHOULD WE KILL TO SHOW THAT KILLING IS WRONG???

Killing is the maximum penalty earthly systems can administer to a person. It assumes that our judicial systems (for example) is perfect! Oh may be it is. But what if the offender develops a sense of remorse soon after the killing of the other. Does s/he has a chance to live his corrected life? Does he still belong to the group of none persons that should be annihilated from this earth? Is it not the one who gives life has a right to take it? what about limitations in communication? yes this adds to the legal language.

Let us trend carefully on the ultimate punishment we are considering to enforce on our fellow beings.

This should be considered together with many others like ABORTIONS(Killing the voiceless and defenseless which need our ultimate protection).

Lets try to find a way of making these citizens productive to our economy if our other fear is that they are draining our resources as they serve their life sentences.

UNDULE YOUR FIGHT IS A GOOD FIGHT, KEEP IT ON!

MADONA DATES MALAWI

After a long legal battle with non-governmental organizations Madona finally gets an a nod to adopt Chifundo James. The advance party is already in the country in readiness for her visit later this month. Madona who usually shuns hotels is expected to lodge at Kumbali lodge in Lilongwe.

Malawians have welcomed the development as a good gesture from the pop idol. Government is optimistic that this will have a good bearing on tourism as it will put Malawi on the global map.

Malawi has a great number of orphans mainly due to HIV/AIDS pandemic. The orphans are either raised in orphanages or by relatives. Young parents are usually victims of HIV/AIDS leaving grandparents to care for the orphans.

Commentators have blamed outdated laws on child adoption as working against the welfare of the children and have deplored the behavior of NGOs who rush to block good will acts in the name of enforcing child protection. Memories are still fresh of Balaka based girl child musician who could mesimerize audience with golden voice and unprecedented stage skills. NGOs got an order stoping the girl from singing so that she could proceed with school. The results were terible the girl lost hope in life, got pregnant and stopped school. Who lost? Search me!
